A Charming Workshop: Intro to Sawing
During this charming, hands-on workshop, students will learn the fundamentals of using a
jeweler’s saw to create a unique metal charm for a bracelet or necklace. Through
demonstrations and guided practice, participants will learn about sawblade sizes, proper blade
installation and tension, and basic sawing techniques. A tabletop drill press demonstration will
show students how to create holes for attaching their finished charm. All materials are included,
and no previous jewelry-making experience is required.
OBJECTIVES:
By the end of the workshop, students will be able to:
• Identify the basic parts of a jeweler’s saw and demonstrate safe handling techniques.
• Select the appropriate sawblade size for different metals and cutting needs.
• Properly install and tension a jeweler’s sawblade.
• Use a jeweler’s saw to make basic straight and curved cuts in metal.
• Understand the basic operation and safe use of a tabletop drill press.
• Create a hole in their charm for attaching it to a bracelet or necklace.
• Apply basic filing and finishing techniques to smooth and refine their finished charm.
• Complete a handmade metal charm to take home and wear or use in a future jewelry
